Kalibr vs. Tomahawk: Which Missile One Most Dangerous In a Battle? The Kalibr suite was designed to compare favorably with Washington’s prolific but aging Tomahawk cruise missiles. Whereas the original Kalibr 3M14 traded performance blows with the Tomahawk’s Block IV revision in what amounts to an approximate draw tilted slightly in Kalibr’s favor, Kalibr-M drastically outranges its US counterpart at 4,500 against 1,700 kilometers. The most significant advantage of the 3M14T and its family is that they can be fired from a wider variety of smaller ships than the American ones that usually carry the Tomahawk, making it easier to deploy. It is also being developed to fire from fixed land bases, vehicles, and aircraft. Tomahawk likely outclasses Kalibr is ECM capability. While Tomahawk’s IV block revision included electronic counter-countermeasures, the Kalibr family is relatively susceptible to jamming techniques. With the modification, Block V Tomahawk has improved its capabilities. Its networking capabilities are beyond that of most operational cruise missiles by a long margin. The MiG-31: The High-Speed Soviet Interceptor that Still Flies Today The MiG-31 retains the Foxbat’s high-altitude performance, though it is a bit slower at Mach 2.83—still faster than any operation Western fighters today. More importantly, it can fly up to Mach 1.23 at low altitude—which the MiG-25 cannot. This makes it ideal for hunting ground-skimming cruise missiles and fighter bombers. Nonetheless, the Foxhound is not highly maneuverable, and cannot safely pull more than 5Gs while flying supersonic. The MiG-31 would not fare well in air-to-air engagements against contemporary fighters such as the F-15—but that’s simply not what it was designed to do. The Foxhound is intended to close on intruders at high speeds, fire off its missiles, and disengage. This has some advantages over conventional ships, namely, they are faster, plus an advantage over aircraft is that they can often be undetectable to radar. The Soviet Union was finding itself in a tricky position in the 1960s with the threat of new nuclear missile-equipped American submarines, that could hide just off their shores. So, they needed something in their arsenal that could counter this threat, and tackle it head-on. Thus, the Bartini Beriev VVA-14 was born. This China's Naval Gatling Gun Shocked The World Type 730 is a Chinese seven-barrelled 30mm Gatling gun CIWS. It has a PLA-N designation H/PJ12. It is mounted in an enclosed automatic turret and directed by radar, and electro-optical tracking systems. The maximum rate of fire is from 4,200 rd/m to 5800 rd/m, and the effective range is up to 3km. The system's primary purpose is a defense against anti-ship missiles and other precision-guided weapons. However, it can also be employed against fixed/rotary-wing aircraft, ships and other small craft, coastal targets, and floating mines. This US Military 20mm Gun System Terrify its Opponents - Phalanx CIWS Phalanx is a point-defense, total-weapon system consisting of two 20mm gun mounts that provide a terminal defense against incoming air targets. CIWS, without assistance from other shipboard systems, will automatically engage incoming anti-ship missiles and high-speed, low-level aircraft that have penetrated the ship's primary defense envelope. As a unitized system, CIWS automatically performs a search, detecting, tracking, threat evaluation, firing, and kill assessments of targets while providing for manual override.
